listings for Arts venues- prices increases&closures

Feeling the affects of the cuts this week, when I was told by my editor to start to collate an idea of what major arts venues would be either upping their prices or closing. We write listings for a range of clients so it vital we're accurate. This is a sad thing to have to do now and it will also be interesting to see just how many are actually closing or are having to put their prices up, or in fact add an entry fee. We've been led to believe most large museums will not charge if they don't… Continue

Size Doesn't Matter -collaboration, sharing and creating.

About 6 weeks ago we (Full Circle Arts) were awarded funding for complete redesign and re-development of our website, which we want to be much more pull than push and a place for people to share, debate and collaborate.

We have been discussing, sharing and testing ideas with Adrian Slatcher from MDDA (Manchester Digital Development Agency) and Social Media Cafe Manchester, our web developers started work last week. One section of the site will be a Swap Shop (working title)…

It's not over yet

Now that the Comprehensive Spending Review has been announced, the arts sector is holding its collective breath to find out how ACE will implement the 28.6% in DCMS funding. We are not alone. Health, Education and everyone else involved in the public sector, along with many private sector contractors, are all trying to establish just how they are going to deal with the masses cuts in public expenditure. According to a recent… Continue

Cultural Learning Alliance: First response to the CSR

The Coalition’s Comprehensive Spending Review announcement yesterday has given us only a very partial indication of the coming impact of these cuts on cultural learning, the lives of children and young people and the professionals that work with them.

In our bulletin the CLA aims to signpost our signatories and partners to some of the headlines of the CSR and to the first comment and analysis emerging from the sector.

Yesterday we received confirmation of cuts to the DCMS,… Continue

ACE faces heavy criticism from Select Committee

Arts Council heavily criticised and arts community accused of ’scaremongering’ during heated inquiry into funding of arts and heritage by the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee.

Alan Davey, Chief Executive of Arts Council England (ACE), has been told he should be 'embarrassed' by his answers after criticism of the organisation's handling of public money.

Artists and Apis Mellifera

Artists and Apis Mellifera

Text from a brief talk I did last night [7th Oct 2010] at the AIR Activist launch, but I think it is also relevant to the wider arts funding debate.

"I have only 2 words I really want to say tonight, neither are English - Apis Mellifera...

I have heard much talk about a cultural ecology – conjuring up nice images of inter-dependent organic systems where each part, whether large or small, is recognised as…

Arts philanthropy: the facts, trends and potential

As we well know, there have been lots of questions (and often misconceptions) on the potential of arts philanthropy, particularly in response to the challenging public funding cuts currently being discussed.

In response, we have tried to answer some of these questions by analysing in depth the current facts and trends of arts philanthropy in addition to charitable giving for the whole voluntary sector and to assess where the growth could come from in the…
