To accompany this year’s Culture Cumbria AGM, we are holding a seminar event designed to encourage debate around the issues thrown up by the new age of austerity in public funding.
The arts and culture sector is being impacted and is expected to be impacted even more. ACE have already announced it's funding reductions.
The reduction in local government support has yet to be quantified.
Our seminar will take place in the film theatre at Rheged (www.rheged.com) from 2pm – 4.30pm on Friday 5 November 2010. The seminar will take the form of keynotes to set the scene, then ‘question time’ panels: arts, politics, business. The panellists will be asked to address your questions arising from the currently proposed themes:
What did the Arts ever do for us?
Cut all arts funding – why not?
Big society: localism v economy of scale?
How do we deliver the same (or more) for less?
In 2010 is the only argument for arts the economic/cultural tourism one?
